For up to date saltwater fishing reports check in with Mike at Hook-Hard.com. He fishes the boats quite a bit and we tend to rely on his trips to let us know what's up in San Diego sportfishing. He has some really great photos on his site too!

Talking with the guys from Seaforth, it appears that all they are fishing for at the moment are rockfish and a Sandie or Calico here and there.
The water still isn't warm enough yet for any hope of a Yelowtail or Tuna bite until the water does warm.
We will be keeping a close eye on the weather and water temps so we can plan our first trip of the year to San Diego. I've had a bunch of you tell me it's time to plan a two day trip down the coast. But I'm afraid we're going to have to wait a little bit longer.
Get out to Lake Mead a couple more times, cruise on up to St. George for the day (Randy has some great hotel deals in Mesquite), or even hit Willow Beach, and we will soon have the conditions that we need to go to San Diego.

In My Humble Opinion By Mike Lacy
Well I learned something new yesterday. While i was trying
to yo-yo a Yellowtail at the bow. Big John took my new
outfit and hooked a Yellowtail and called me to come and
land the fish, which I seemed to do with no problem. But I
was tossing my heavy jig away from the boat and then
trying to yo-yo a fish. That is the wrong method on trying
to catch Yellows on the yo-yo jig. Your method should be
dropping straight down then reeling that jig up as fast as
you can. Now that I know the fish better beware. I also
bought some pencil jigs. I'll tell you how they worked
next week.
People have been asking me why do I give the pictures
away. I do it because I truly believe that all of us who
fish together are brothers and sisters. I don't think that
I'm above anyone when I'm on the Mission Belle. Ryan, Ray
and billy are both great captains and they work hard to
put us on fish, and will stay extra time out fishing to
give us a decent table fare. So why not make the trip more
enjoyable for everyone. See you next week end.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS FOR
YOU TO REMEMBER WHEN SALT WATER FISHING.
1. Always be courteous to you fellow angler. This
creates a positive attitude on the boat and more fish are
caught per person.
2. Try not to play in the bait tank. It's the life blood of the
boat. Killing the bait doesn't do anyone any good.
3. Check your gear and make sure it's balanced. Don't
go Elephant hunting with a Pea Shooter. The Proper
gear for the proper size fish is strongly recommended.
4. Change your line frequently, change it after several
trips or if your catching big fish.
5. Don't be stubborn ask questions if you don't know
what's going on. Anglers are eager to share information.
6. Wet your line before casting. Burnt thumbs are no fun.
7. Stay in front of your line. More fish are lost and sawed
off because someone wasn't staying in front of their line.
8. Check your drags. Check your drags, and then check
them again.
9. Don't save your hooks, Putting a hook back into the
box after fishing in salt water will rust all other hooks.
10. Listen to the Boat crew they do this everyday for a
living. They know what they are doing.
11. Tip the boat Crew according to the service you
receive, have a good time thats what you paid your
money for.
